Drop-In Shelter

Located at 64 Albany Street in Oshawa, ON, the Gate is a drop-in shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness. We strive to show God’s love to a broken world by creating a Christian atmosphere of friendship and understanding. Many come simply for a breath of hope, encouragement, and a listening ear.

Tour of Our Facility

When you first walk in the door at the Gate you will find our welcome desk with free dinner tickets to those who can make it to St. Vincent’s kitchen for dinner. Here there is also all the information that you need about our services mentioned above.

To the right you’ll see the counter where our patrons can come pick up their breakfast and lunch meals. Many appreciate the welcoming atmosphere and enjoy the meals here, but we also provide bag lunches for those in a hurry or those who have part time jobs.

Behind the counter is our kitchen where our volunteers work tirelessly to provide hearty, healthy meals from scratch every day. We often receive many compliments on our food by our patrons!

Returning to our main seating area, you’ll find individuals enjoying the warmth, friendship, or a hot cup of coffee…

…or those who simply need some rest. People have shared that the Gate is a peaceful and safe place for them to come. They often lack this in some of the rooming houses where they live.

As you continue to the back, you’ll find the offices for our staff and volunteers, including a room for clients to privately speak with a counsellor. You might even run into a friendly face, like our administration manager Alan!

Finally, our storage area for donations, our laundry services, as well as the room where clients meet with the doctor are located in the basement. We are extremely grateful for all of the generous donations that fill up our storage area.

Thank you for touring our facility! If you’d like to learn more about our organization, check out our Who We Are page.
